Virtue and Honesty!

The adage “the truth hurts” is…well…true. The accuracy of this statement is evident in every day life. When is the last time you told someone they were overbearing, moody, impersonal, confrontational or even too timid? Our guess is…rarely! We atypically seek the truth. Normally, human nature causes us to run from candor or lie to others/ourselves hoping things “work out” in the end. Winston Churchill made the poignant quote “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.” The aforementioned statement is particularly pertinent to our Cadre community. We recently “stumbled” over our own truth. Many of you know that we have an anonymous Suggestion/Report Card box. We’ve had a handful of generally helpful comments/suggestions over the last 22 months and we truly appreciate them! Someone recently “kicked it up a notch” and took the time to type out a well written, 5 paragraph critique of what they’ve experienced and how subtle change has altered their athletic satisfaction as of late. First of all…THANK YOU!!!

We all know that Cadre is NOTHING without our community! This foundation is the “glue” what holds us together, moves us forward, and makes us better individuals (not just athletes). YOU, the athlete, drive the direction of our box and make the “mojo” we all have come to know and love. If you’re around CrossFit long enough, you will hear the word “virtuosity” uttered from time to time. In gymnastics, virtuosity is defined as “performing the common uncommonly well."

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Virtuosity: a taste or interest in virtue (the good qualities inherent in a person or thing). In the music world, a “virtuoso” is someone who actively dedicates every fiber of his or her being to melodic excellence. We want to strive to pursue that harmony within our own community. As in any journey, there are bound to be bumps and distractions along the way. We’ve all taken a shortcut, avoided confrontation, eaten a lot of something we shouldn’t have and regretted it. The fault lies not only in the poor choice but more so, in compromising what we believe in or “lying” to ourselves about it. An honest, introspective look helps us grow and develop unfettered.

Whew! Having said all of that, the take home message is that we are in constant pursuit of virtuosity at Cadre. The truth isn’t always what we want to hear…it’s what we NEED to hear! So please, don’t hold back or quietly suffer through a frustration or dissatisfaction. We want the chance to actively address your suggestions and critiques. Your fulfillment and development are paramount to healthy growth. Without a doubt we know that YOU…the athlete…are what make us Cadre!
